New York Dram Shop Attorneys

Under New York State law, the owner and operator of an establishment that sells liquor has an obligation not to serve a person that is obviously intoxicated or under age.  These laws are often referred to as Dram Shop laws.  If the bar, club or restaurant violates these duties and someone is injured as a result of the intoxicated person’s actions, the establishment can be held responsible.

Common situation in which this occurs include when a patron drives while intoxicated and gets into a car accident or where an drunk patron assaults someone, either in the bar or elsewhere. These situations often result in very serious injuries including death, quadriplegia, paraplegia, gunshot wounds, facial slashing with permanent disfigurement, and broken bones which require surgery.
